Grassroots 2025/2026

  • What is Grassroots? Our Grassroots program is designed to teach basic volleyball skills and game rules to  Boys and Girls in 3rd-6th grade.  More advanced 5th/6th grade girls should tryout for 11u or 12u before signing up for grassroots.
  • Head Coaches: Heidi Sheikho and Sharks 18u players

  • No tryouts. Grassroots players will bring all their forms below to their first practice.

  • Cost: $500 per athlete.  Each athlete will receive a t-shirt style jersey and a volleyball that the Gulf Coast Region provides for free to all participants.  Depending on age, there is a small additional fee for a USAV membership which is required for insurance purposes. The registration instructions are below.

Grassroots Schedule 2025/2026

  • Practices will begin the week of Dec 7th. Practices typically run from 4:30-6:00 on weekdays and/or Sundays. The current plan is one practice on Sunday afternoons and one additional weekday practice.

  • Play Day Schedule: We participate in 4 half-day tournaments in the local area including the GCR Grassroots championships in Mobile on Friday, April 24th. We try to participate in 1 of these play days per month from Jan-Apr.

  • Draft play day schedule (CAO 10/29/25):
    • Fri, 1/9 @ Foley Event Center (5:30 pm start)
    • Sun, 2/1 @ Choctaw in FWB (2:00 pm start)
    • Sun, 3/8 @ UWF in Pensacola (2:00 pm start)
    • Fri, 4/24 @ Mobile CC, AL (6:00 pm start)

2025 – 2026 Sign Up Information

All athletes must complete the following steps before playing.

register for USAV Junior Membership

Register for a USAV Junior Developmental Membership using Sports engine. The fee should be $50 or less depending on age. You do not need the full membership for grassroots. Use this direct link to purchase your membership and register with Sharks:

bring forms with you to the 1st practice
pay the $500 season fee

IMPORTANT: In the notes of the pay pal payment include: Player name, birthdate, grade, T-shirt size, and USAV membership number.
